Haven

Aerial view of Milford Haven waterwayPembrokeshire Yacht Club being one of the leading clubs on the Milford Haven Waterway has enjoyed for decades support from people who like to sail yachts, whether it be for fun in one of our fabulous sheltered bays, a quick race around the cans on mid week evenings, then in the summer some long cruiser races to foreign shores. Either way PYC’s members have years and years of experience in helping to ensure PYC is the chosen club for the discerning yachtsperson on The Haven.

Wanting to be proactive with other like minded individuals PYC have now got a notice board on Milford Marina, where, if you do not have access to the internet whilst down on the marina the notice board will be full of things that PYC are getting up to. Come and check us out for a bit of social with like mined people.

Milford Haven waterway nestles on the westernmost tip of Wales, closer to Ireland than to Swansea. The Haven enjoys over 22 miles of navigable waterway and is mostly surrounded by the National Park.

The Haven has numerous safe anchorages for all types of craft from its entrance all the way to moorings at Lawrenny and further upriver to Black Tar.

Exciting sailing can be experienced nearer the entrance to the Haven where we can enjoy the prevailing South Westerlies giving an average of around a force four. Upstream the Haven becomes more sheltered to the extent that all you can hear is the tide rushing past the mooring buoys or just listen to the wildlife under the shelter of the over hanging trees. This, our Haven, a truly magical place.

You will see boats of all different types on the Haven, the guys who enjoy Fishing will be seen from ‘The Heads’ all the way to the creeks on the Eastern and Western Cleaddau, fishing on the bait or flies. Some places in The Haven still are commercially fished. We often see local lobster boats tending their pots mostly around the entrance and rocky fringes, but beware the pot markers outside the main channels.

In the upper reaches of the Haven you will find, in the more sheltered waters, the skiers with their knee boards, doughnuts, bananas etc. doing their stunts and sometimes this can be fun to watch with some amazing wipe-out’s.

Twice a day we see the ferry bringing cargo and passengers to and from Ireland via the ferry terminal at Pembroke Dock.

Our Haven has a place for every one who enjoys being out on the water, places to eat, local character pubs and hostelries are dotted all the way up. There are numerous both popular and quietly remote anchorages along the entire length of the waterway.

There are two major marinas at Neyland and Milford Haven with all the facilities expected for the maintenance of boats and the inner man! Pembrokeshire Yacht Club has a special relationship with its near neighbour, Milford Marina, where many of our members’ vessels are berthed. Milford Marina offers special discounts for Club members and the marina’s parent company, Milford Haven Port Authority, sponsor several annual Club events. In partnership we seek to promote the safe leisure use of our truly Magical Haven!Boat anchored
